Human Promotion
She (the Church) is in solidarity with the poor. It is necessary to understand this term in all its meaning, which includes, for example, men affected by spiritual, psychological or material indigence. The effective assistance that must be provided to these "poor" has certainly been one of the principal tasks of the Church and its members since ancient times. But today its exercise has become the most splendid testimony of a living faith and, for a large number of men outside the Church, an invaluable criterion of its credibility. (La Iglesia) Es solidaria de los pobres. Es preciso entender este término en toda su acepción, que comprende, por ejemplo, a los hombres afectados por la indigencia espiritual, psicológica o material. La asistencia eficaz que hay que asegurar a estos «pobres» es, ciertamente, desde la antigüedad, una de las tareas principales de la Iglesia y de sus miembros. Pero hoy en día su ejercicio ha llegado a ser el testimonio más esplendoroso de una fe viva y, para un gran número de hombres ajenos a la Iglesia, un criterio inapreciable de su credibilidad.
